State Farm Auto Insurance
Based in Bloomington Illinois, State Farm may be the largest auto insurance carrier in the US. They have over seventy million policies for property, casualty and life insurance. Major car insurance competitors include AAA, Allstate, Farmers Insurance, Geico, Nationwide,and Progressive. State Farm started as an auto insurance company and now they have a network of over 16,000 agents. They are rated AA by Standard & Poor's. I learned on State Farm's website:
- They do use consumer reports to issue rates.
- You will have to enter a drivers license number to get a rate.
- At any time you can forward your info to a State Farm rep local to you.
- You can't compare other carriers
- State Farm offers a new FastEstimate™
State Farm took #4 in the J.D. Powers 2011 U.S. Auto Claims Satisfaction Study, being only 1 of 4 car insurance companies getting a 4 out of 5 rating.
State Farm Banking
State Farm offers banking services and has since 1998. I used them in the past, and was pleased. State Farm has announced their debit cards will continue to have no monthly fees or minimum purchase requirements. State Farm also offers accounts with no monthly fees and no minimum balance requirements. 2 million have already tried State Farm Banking. Several other insurers like Nationwide also offer banking. And you can get almost every type of insurance at most of the large banks.
State Farm Auto Insurance Online
State Farm online offers online quotes for car insurance in 35 states. The State Farm website also provides for online policy changes, payment and claim reporting. Since the FastEstimate doesn't require any personal information, the rate is impersonal and may not apply.
The FastEstimate interface makes "assumptions" about you
FastEstimate only applies to one vehicle and one driver.
You can also personalize your rate, and according to State Farm's website:
"Completing your quote should only take 10-15 minutes depending on the number of vehicles for which you need coverage."

When I went to personalize my quote, they asked if I had any major violations which included racing, reckless driving, evading the police, felony speeding (100+ mph), etc. If you've done these things, you probably will be turned down by most major carriers anyway.
I was stopped at State Farm's "Vehicle Information" page when their drop down boxes were blank, so I never was able to get a rate from them
. According to their progress bar, I still needed to fill out "select coverages" then get my rate. I can see where getting rate from State Farm could take all of 10-15 minutes, fairly long for the net. Grand tally: 3 thumbs down, only 1 up. And the FastEstimate will only work with you have no driving problems, or additional drivers. Disagree or have a different perspective? Tell me what you think.
